Green Belts lead full DMAIC projects and apply advanced statistical and lean tools independently, typically as part-time improvement leaders alongside their operational role. Black Belts operate at a higher level of statistical sophistication, lead more complex and strategically significant projects and take on a full-time improvement leadership role. Black Belts also mentor and coach Green and Yellow Belts and contribute to portfolio management and organizational CI strategy. Green Belt is the natural prerequisite for Black Belt progression.
Previous belts are not a formal prerequisite, but completing them is the recommended path and the one that delivers the most value. Each belt builds on the knowledge, tools, and mindset developed at the previous level, allowing the training to move more quickly into practical application and project work. Because every belt is delivered in-company, the content is tailored to the group’s previous knowledge and experience, whether the team is progressing through the belt pathway or already has equivalent Lean Six Sigma experience.

However, programs can scale across multiple groups, departments, or sites using parallel cohorts or scaling methods adapted to large organizations.
